The TCA has just recieved a generous grant from the European Union to implement a water and sanitaion program. Over the next 12 months we will be establishing 243 water tanks and toilets across the 40 villages we work with ............
In 2007 TCA was successful in obtaining a grant from the European - Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program (RWSSP). The Program aims to improve the health and hygiene of rural communities by implementing health and hygiene education programs and improving new facilities such as constructing VIP toilets which consist of a cement floor, vent pipe and hole cover. TCA has delivered 60, 1000 gallon Tuffa Tanks and relevant materials to the 18 Tenkile Villages. Each Clan or community has paid a 10% community contribution so as to create a greater sense of ownership.
In August 2010, TCA received the second phase of funding available from the European Union’s RWSSP grant. The Tenkile Conservation Alliance will work in collaboration with 40 villages in the project area (18 Tenkile villages, 21 Weimang villages and Maui village) to assist them in improving community health via the delivery of materials to establish 243 Tuffa Tanks as a clean water supply and 243 VIP toilets to improve sanitation. This is the largest grant to be awarded to the TCA.
